Nordjyllandsværket - A Coal-Fired Power Plant
Nordjyllandsværket ranks among the world's most efficient coal-fired power plants, providing electricity and district heating to Aalborg Varme A/S. The facility ensures a unique infrastructure within Norbis Park, delivering up to 412 MW of electrical power.
Phasing Out the Power Plant
The power plant is expected to cease operations by the end of 2028, marking a transition toward alternative sources for future district heating supply.
Norbis Park's spaces are earmarked for the power plant's gradual transition to future heat and electricity production. This involves utilizing surplus heat from facilities in and outside Norbis Park, alongside solar and wind energy, output from a forthcoming seawater heat pump, storage tanks, and electric boilers.
The Norwegian company Kyoto Group is testing a thermal battery in Norbis Park. The facility provides surplus heat to Aalborg Forsyning, equivalent to the annual heat consumption of approximately 250 households.
